A village road along the Thu Bon River between cornfields and green rice paddies in Duy Xuyen

The land

A countryside between two heritage sites

Duy Xuyen is a rural district of the Quang region and, since July 1, 2025, part of Da Nang City. The My Son temple complex sits right here, and Hoi An's old town is only a short ride away. Both were recognized by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage sites in 1999.

Between the two, the Thu Bon River has built up lush cornfields and sedge meadows, and in the old days there were mulberry fields for silkworms too. Nhà An Duy Xuyen is a garden house by the river, on the road from Hoi An up to My Son. The street number will be announced later, so the distances on this page are only estimates.

  • My Son is about 40 km from Hoi An's old town
  • Dry season, easiest for travel: roughly February to August
  • Tra Ly lotus season: roughly May to August

Festivals & best seasons

Visit Duy Xuyen in season

Village festivals follow the lunar calendar, so they fall on a different solar date each year.

First lunar month

The Lady Chiem Son Festival (10th–12th of the first month) in Chiem Son village: a royal decree procession, bài chòi folk singing, lion dances and a country market. A national intangible cultural heritage since 2025.

Second lunar month

The Lady Thu Bon Festival (10th–12th of the second month): water procession, boat races, floating lanterns, hát bội classical opera and bài chòi. Also a national intangible cultural heritage.

February to August

Dry season with clear skies, ideal for My Son and the craft villages. On scorching summer days, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

May to August

Tra Ly lotus season. Enjoy the lotus in the morning light; please don't pick the flowers or wade into the villagers' fields.

September to December

Rainy season in central Vietnam, with floods usually peaking around October–November. Check the weather forecast and river water levels before you go.

Little tips

Travel slow, travel kindly

Getting around

  • A motorbike or car is most convenient; village roads are narrow and some stretches run right along the river, so go slowly.
  • From Hoi An you can rent a vehicle or book a ride; agree on the route beforehand.
  • Bring a thin raincoat, as the weather in central Vietnam changes quickly.
  • Once the official address is ready, Nhà An will send directions via Zalo.

Best times

  • My Son: early morning, cool and quiet.
  • Tra Ly lotus: about 6–9 a.m.
  • Thu Bon River: late afternoon, at sunset.
  • In summer, avoid walking outdoors from about 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Etiquette

  • Don't climb on, sit on or write or draw on the towers and artifacts.
  • Ask the weaver before taking photos in a weaving workshop.
  • Buy a small item to support the craft village.
  • Take your trash with you and cut down on single-use plastic.
