Weather across Vietnam

Spring arrives, and the air warms up

Tết (Lunar New Year) usually falls between late January and mid-February; in 2027, the first day of Tết is Saturday, Feb. 6. Spring arrives earlier or later depending on the region.

  • North: the cold eases, a light drizzle falls, and damp, humid days may show up toward month's end
  • Central: gradually warmer, sunshine with the odd light shower, a pleasant time for a spring outing
  • Central Highlands: dry season with plenty of sun; coffee blossoms often peak from late February into March, depending on the year
  • South: dry, sunny and getting hotter; Saigon buzzes with flower markets

In the North, the tray usually holds bananas, pomelo, oranges, tangerines and persimmons. In the South, people favor custard apple, fig, coconut, papaya and mango, whose names sound like a wish for “just enough to spend.”
