June: lychees galore, fragrant lotus and an ice-cold iced tea

Weather across Vietnam

Midsummer: hot, humid and stormy

June is often one of the hottest months of the year in many parts of the country. Thunderstorms arrive fast and clear just as fast, so a folding umbrella always comes in handy.

  • North: hot and humid, with scorching sun broken up by thunderstorms
  • Central: hot and sunny; head to the beaches in Da Nang and Hoi An early in the morning or late in the afternoon
  • Central Highlands: rainy season and cool weather, with most rain in the late afternoon and evening
  • South: rainy season with short afternoon showers; mornings are still sunny and muggy

Choosing and storing produce

  • Mangosteen, rambutan: buy just enough to finish within a few days

Staying comfortable in the heat

  • Drink plenty of water and go easy on very sweet drinks
  • Avoid the harsh midday sun; wear a hat and breathable clothes
  • In the evening, choose low-caffeine drinks so you can sleep well

Getting out in June

  • To see West Lake lotus, go at dawn when the flowers are open and the air is cool
  • Hit the beaches in Da Nang and Hoi An early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and wear sunscreen
